Reports from the AFGA conference in Edmonton – By Duncan Baldie
FISHERIES REPORT
The netting of Prussian carp on the Blood Indian reserve seems to help, .ie first year: 100,000 —were taken out – second year 50,000 were taken out, third year 25,000 were taken out. So by this scenario it does seem to be beneficial. It will not eradicate them but it will keep their numbers down to an acceptable amount.
Lake sturgeon on both North and South Saskatchewan rivers are doing well. Sturgeon on the North Saskatchewan have gone from 794 to 2522 at present. Sturgeon on The South Saskatchewan river have gone from 8500 to 15,000 which is good recruitment. Good news for once!
Walleye stocking will continue on south country lakes and an assessment will be done in 2025-26 to see if successful.
