Members Coyote Bounty Program

Posted on December 31 2024

MHFGA Coyote Management Incentive Program

Equal funding of this program has been provided by the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS) and the Medicine Hat Fish and Game Association (MHFGA)

Collapse of the coyote fur market has led to reduced coyote management, resulting in an excessive coyote population. This now has created significant losses to agricultural livestock and wildlife prey species .

***Open to 2025 members of MHFGA only***

2025 Coyote Management Incentive Program- Expanded Rules

Medicine Hat Fish and Game Association and Alberta Professional Outfitters Society recognize the fact that coyotes are a part of the natural environment and therefore play a critical role in wildlife dynamics. Problems occur when the population dynamics become unbalanced. When this occurs as in the case of coyotes, not only are other wildlife populations affected, but also agricultural livestock and even humans. Therefore MHFGA /APOS are taking a proactive approach to not only protect agricultural livestock, but also wildlife and in extreme cases human life.

  1. Must be a MHFGA 2025 member in order to participate
  2. Must register coyotes taken by messaging the Medicine Hat Fish and Game facebook page or emailing ([email protected])
  3. When registering, requirements will be your name and the number of coyotes harvested that day.
  4. Must register, in real time, as once the 500 quota has been reached, the program will end. Every Facebook or email registry will be responded to. If you don’t receive acknowledgement of your registry, please send a follow up email or message.
  5. Program will operate from January 15 until March 8, 2025 OR until 500 coyotes have been harvested, which ever comes first
  6. Coyotes must be harvested legally within Cypress County boundaries only
  7. The MHFGA administer will have the right and ability to request additional harvest information if deemed necessary.
  8. The MHFGA administer will have the right and ability to discontinue further coyote registration from a harvester that is deemed to have taken any coyote inappropriately, within the rules of this program
  9. Coyotes harvested must be between the program dates – January 15 until 2 pm March 8, 2025 OR until 500 quota has been achieved
  10. If the 500 quota is achieved prior to March 8 . Notice will be posted on the MHFGA Facebook page and Website.
  11. Proof of coyote harvest will be required, by presenting 4 paws of each coyote (package each set of 4 coyote paws separately) for ease of counting animals on March 8, 2025
  12. $20.00 will be paid, upon proof of 4 paws per coyote, only on the March 8 date between 10am-2pm
  13. Proof of harvest (4 paws per animal) will need to be brought on March 08, 2025, between 10am-2pm to the Seven Person Community Hall (Mildred Street, Seven Persons) at the MHFGA Horn Scoring Day Event
  14. Coyote incentive payments will only be made at this time
  15. All participants in this program are responsible for obtaining proper licensing and permission as well as following all established regulations with respect to hunting of coyotes. Participation in this program does not afford any person special privileges or exemptions from any regulations.
  16. Snared coyotes must be obtained legally by a registered fur management license for trapping
  17. Program will be evaluated for effectiveness upon completion
